Platinum Blogger Template - Customised

Posted by Junaid Saturday, September 4, 2010

You may have noticed that Anup, Admin of Hack Tutors recently converted Platinum Wordpress Theme to Blogger Template which is originally designed by StudioPress. This is a good template with classic and high quality look. This is a great work because one have to change and alter hundreds of codes which can freak your mind. I am thankful to Anup for this conversion because I liked this template.

That was the story of Anup, but when i uploaded this Template to my test blog, I found some errors and some tasks were difficult for normal users. So, I minimized those errors and made it a little more simpler especially for the newbies or those who do not know about HTML.

You may read the details of the Template in Anup's post so that you can realize the changes.

This is the screenshot of the Template which I have modified.

Coming towards the Changes.

1. The Header Logo.

In Anup's addition, you have to change the header logo from HTML, which may be confusing for some Bloggers and you must place a logo pic because if it is not fed with logo pic, it will not show the "Blog Name" in the place of logo.

I removed Anup's HTML codes and replaced them with other codes and made a widget at the place of logo. So, you can simply write the Blog name and description and can assign any logo pic from your PC as well as from the web too. But i recommend to upload your logo pic to a pic hosting website and then place the URL of the logo in the widget. And one thing more, the logo/blog name will not be click-able when you are on the home page of your blog, as you visit any of your page accept the home page, the logo/blog name will be assigned with the Home Page URL.

2. The Search Box

The search box was redirecting to StudioPress' website as we hit the "Search" button. I tried to fix it but failed. So, I added a widget there and you can place a 468x60px Ad banner there. If you want to add a search box to your blog, then add the Custom Search Box present in the default Blogger Widgets.

3. Page Navigation (Newer Posts and Older Posts)

The Page Navigation text/widget was also missing which is the problem of almost every template I try. And this is the only problem which took most of my time to fix it.

In the screenshot which Anup have put in his post show the Numbered Page Navigation but it was not visible when I uploaded.

And now this error is fixed. You can see it. Anyway, if you want to add the Numbered Page Navigation to your Blog, then Read the following Post

Add Numbered Page Navigation Widget To Your Blog

4. Sexy Bookmarking Widget

The Sexy Bookmarking Widget is added at the end of each post so you don't have to search here and there for bookmarking widgets.

5. Related Posts Widget

Under each post, a widget which shows Related Posts with in the Label (the label given to the post). This one is very useful because it really how the related posts.

I am also thinking to turn my template to Platinum Template too because I liked it.

    Hi Johny,
Nice modification of Platinum for Blogger. But still I recommend to use image as a logo or use some CSS images to beautify the Logo.

Also have a look of my Blogussion to Blogger converted theme at HackTweak.co.cc

I've also created a new completely flexible Blogger theme.

    Hope you'll love it.
